Version: 4.3.85 (using Devel)
OS: Linux
Installed from: Compiled sources

When I browse over video file for which KDE (dolphin or kphotoalbum for example) tries to create video thumbnails (MOV or AVI files from my camera in this case). There is no thumbnail created, instead a dummy icon is shown and the kio_thumbnail process in the background is eating memory.

So if there are many videos in a directory I have to hurry to not get into a OOM condition.

I would this really consider a show-stopper for 4.4 as it will "crash" to whole system if a user does not know what is happening and "kill -9"'s the kio_thumbnail processes.

This only happens if "Phonon" is selected as backend in mplayerthumbsconfig. With the mplayer backend everything works as expected.
