Suddenly sound stopped working for me. I notice that backed no longer show digital device. It shows just analog one and pulseaudio. I'm using kde 4.3.86 on opensuse 11.2 X86_64.

Here is my alsa-info.

I noticed that digial device was considered as advanced device and hence not showing up. I could turn that option and see it. I kept it as higher priority but still no audio.

Given the age and running KDE 4, I'm closing this as unmaintained. Let us know if it's not working more recently.
