Status: RESOLVED FIXED
Severity: normal CC: caulier.gilles, languitar, marcel.wiesweg, pdgfellow
Priority: NOR

Sentry Crash Report:

Description Mac 2009-12-30 02:23:34 UTC
Version: 1.0.0-beta5 (using KDE 4.3.2)
OS: Linux
Installed from: Ubuntu Packages

Cannot save edited images that reside on a network storage device.
Cannot move nor copy images from local file to file on NAS

Message: Failed to save file (file name)
            to (location on NAS)

There does not appear to be a problem with the system because files can be edited and saved with The Gimp.

Have tried this on two different computers both using Ubuntu 9.10 and digiKam 1.0.0-beta5 and no joy

Can you try this again with the final 1.0.0 release? http://www.digikam.org/drupal/node/491
Comment 2 caulier.gilles 2009-12-30 09:33:58 UTC
Yes, You must use last 1.0.0 stable release instead an old beta. This problem have already fixed.

Ask to your linux packager to update definitively digiKam package to last stable.

I would love to be able to do that I know very little about the inner workings
of Linux. I use Ubuntu and install compiled applications from the
repositories. The Ubuntu backports do not have digikam 1.0 in them yet.
To compile from tarball it appears I have to install KDE4 and when I look for
that I am presented with a most confusing array of options that mean little
or nothing to me.
I guess I will have to wait until digikam 1.0 has been packaged.

Sorry, I would like to help.

After trying several "how-tos" on compiling digikam from a tarball I found one
that seemed to work, not the way the author said it would but it did not give
me any errors.

I now have digikam 1.0.0 using KDE 4.3.2 installed on the test computer but I
still cannot save edited files located on the DNS-323 NAS.

Giles sent a reply asking me to tell the package maintainers to add digiKam
1.0.0 to the Ubuntu package. Would that enable me to save images on an NAS
and if so, how do I contact the package maintainers?

Ok, so this really is a bug.

The ubuntu thing is something else. Ubuntu packages beta5 with their release. A beta is what a beta is... possibly unstable. And we get so many reports from ubuntu users with bugs that are already fixed since beta5. We somehow need to convice the ubuntu team to update their digikam package and it helps if users request this.

Mac, please check for error messages on the console.
For this, first start "kdebugdialog" and ensure that code 50003 is checked. Then, start "digikam" from the command line and look if any error messages appear while you try to save the files.
To be sure, did you confirm from Help->About digikam that you're indeed running your self-compiled 1.0 version?
Comment 9 Mac 2010-01-01 02:18:31 UTC
Yes Marcel, I did confirm from Help>About digikam and it says it is running
1.0.

I guess from what you say that I must wait for Ubuntu to update their
repositories with current packages.
I will install Kbuntu on a test system to see if it works but from what you
say, Kubuntu may also use the Ubuntu Repositories and I will be stuck at the
same spot.

Thanks for your advice. I had wanted to change to 9.10 but may have to wait
for 10.04

If you have upgraded manually, you can do the debugging, if Kubuntu really has new packages now, even better.

Hello Gilles:

I have been too busy to install recent upgrades so I do not know if
the problem has been solved.

After the new year when things have settled down I will do some
testing and let you know.

Thanks

Mac

New digiKam 4.11.0 is available :

https://www.digikam.org/node/740

Can you reproduce the problem with this release ?
Comment 16 caulier.gilles 2016-07-15 13:23:56 UTC
With digiKam 5.0.0, this problem is not reproducible.
I close this file now. Don't hesitate to re-open if necessary.
