Version:           1.12.4 (using 4.3.4 (KDE 4.3.4), Debian packages)
Compiler:          cc
OS:                Linux (i686) release 2.6.30-2-686

Debian testing here, with kde 4.3.4 sid; executing kmail from the console:

$ kmail
<unknown program name>(12562)/: Communication problem with  "kmail" , it probably crashed.
Error message was:  "org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NoReply" : " "Did not receive a reply. Possible causes include: the remote application did not send a reply, the message bus security policy blocked the reply, the reply timeout expired, or the network connection was broken."

Thank you for taking the time to file a bug report.

KMail2 was released in 2011, and the entire code base went through significant changes. We are currently in the process of porting to Qt5 and KF5. It is unlikely that these bugs are still valid in KMail2.

We welcome you to try out KMail 2 with the KDE 4.14 release and give your feedback.
