The playlist allows for custom formatting (decide which fields to be positioned where) as well as custom sorting. Available fields encompass not only Genre, Artist, Album (name), but also Title, Filename, Bitrate, ...

The collection pane, grouped by Artist or Genre, is unsuitable for certain usages. This is why other methods for sorting and displaying should be provided. Maybe it is wise to use the functionality of the playlist also for the collection pane (maybe extended for the needs of the collection pane).
