Description Timmorn 2009-12-18 16:13:04 UTC
Version: (using KDE 4.3.4)
OS: Linux
Installed from: openSUSE RPMs

In the moment my second screen is useless with digikam. It would be a great improvement, if it would be possible to use a second screen.

I could imaging the following simple solution: There is an option in the preferences where i can set that the picture view opens in a _new_ window. This i can place on the second screen and on the first screen i have the thumbnails.

Definitively... no. To support more than one screen, this is delegate to windows manager, not digiKam...

Please move this entry to the right place on bugzilla...

?? No, this has nothing to do with window manager... It supports allready more than one screen. It is only a thing of digicam to support working with two windows. Digicam has nothing to do with the second screen, because if it supports a second window for picture view i can drag it to the second screen which is supported by my window manager.

So perhaps i have to give an other title if someone gets confused because i talked about screens: "Support for second window"

Yes that would nice to be able to "detach" the preview from main digikam window for people with several screens.

Okular as support for choosing in which screen presentations should be displayed.
Maybe code could be reused.

I think there is no need to choose a screen... to open the images in a second window is enough. You can drag the window then on the screen you want it to stay.

But i found now that there is a workaround for this issue. For me this is enough:

In the settings it is possible to set: "Action when choosing a picture preview" - "Open picture editor" (perhaps it is named a little different, i only translated from german). The picture editor opens in a second screen and you can also go through the pictures when you opened the preview this way.

Timmorn,

This entry still valid for you with digiKam 2.x serie. I use digiKam on dual screen without any problem here...

Hi Gilles Caulier,

like I wrote in #5, it was already solved for me with the option "Action when choosing a picture preview".

Thanks
