I managed, by booting a Mepis 8.0.12 live cd in r/w filesystem mode, to create the addressbook resource in the desired non-default location, and to import addresses from .csv files and save the resulting combined file. When I booted the installed Mepis 8.06 as usual, I was able to save new entries to that addressbook as I would have expected. I have no idea what was going wrong before; it is strongly anti-intuitive that I should have been able to save entries now, when I couldn't before, in the same location, and everything else the same except that there was a pre-existing non-empty file this time. <shrug> |
