Description Marian Ciobanu 2009-12-06 12:35:53 UTC
Version: (using KDE 4.3.1)
OS: Linux
Installed from: openSUSE RPMs

This happens in both openSUSE 11.2 and KUbuntu 9.10. To reproduce:

- disable desktop effects
- add a new panel, at the top; insert a "task manager" widget
- resize the new panel, if needed
- reboot / relogin
- open several windows and maximize them (one might be enough)
- hover the mouse alternatively over the 2 panels in places that show tooltips (e.g. program names in Task Manager)
- when a new tooltip is shown, the area that was covered with the previous tooltip (from the other panel) is replaced with content from a window that is underneath the one on top (might be the desktop)

I don't think it's relevant that the second panel has a Task Manager. I guess anything that shows tooltips will do.

Thanks for the report. Only a small note: remember to attach files directly into bugzilla and not link to external URL. If you attach a file we are sure that the file will not be deleted. Thanks again :-)

(Actually I meant to attach a screenshot, but it wasn't immediately obvious how to do it. I guess I missed the option, as when adding comments there is an obvious "Add an attachment" link.)

I wanted to add that 2 panels are not really needed. The same happens in openSUSE 11.2 (and perhaps elsewhere, I haven't tried) with the single, default panel, but it only happens sporadically, while the steps in my original post always seem to lead to this issue.

Also, I seem to remember something like this as far back as KDE 4.1, so it's not something new.

The issue was reported at bug 177959 / bug 173686. It is a bug in the video server X.org

This is clearly a Xorg bug, I was able to write a xlib-only testcas (as I was asked for), but then nothing happend.

If you want this bug fixed, please vote for it and make some polite noise at:
