I'm using the desktop effect that helps locating the mouse cursor when a certain key is pressed (cursor surrounded by moving stars). 

It would be nice to have an effect that can temporarily turn the mouse cursor into one horizontal and one vertical line spanning the whole screen upon hitting some shortcut.
Maybe, this functionality could somehow incorporate what one can do with kruler, but without having to start a separate application.
This would help locating the cursor and would be helpful for aligning/measuring purposes. If you have, say, some diagram in a pdf, but the data point is far away from the axes, this could help reading out a data point etc.

We already have pretty big number of effects so I doubt such effect will be shipped with KWin (or be part of it).

On the other hand, KWin has really good support for third-party effects so one could implement such effect.
