Bug 216788

Summary: kmail character encoding when forwarding
Product: [Applications] kontact Reporter: Roger Larsson <roger.larsson>
Component: mailAssignee: kdepim bugs <kdepim-bugs>
Status: RESOLVED UNMAINTAINED
Severity: normal

Description Roger Larsson 2009-11-30 12:02:31 UTC
Version:           4.3.2 (using 4.3.1 (KDE 4.3.1) "release 6", openSUSE 11.2)
Compiler:          gcc
OS:                Linux (x86_64) release 2.6.31.5-0.1-desktop

Got a mail encoded as

Content-Type: text/html;
  charset=ISO-8859-1
Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable

with Swedish national characters - shows up as html and displays correctly.
Show source reveals that the characters are multi char encoded in the mail...
("=F6" is "รถ")

--- like this ---
Hej!<br><br>S=F6ndag den 13 december =E4r det julshow ute=A0 i stallet i =
Gu=
mmark.
--- end snip ---

When forwarding the encoding changes to the more correct
Content-Type: Text/Plain;
  charset="iso-8859-15"
Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable

But the contents of the body/inline forwarded message does not change.

Forwarded message shows up correctly in kmails sent folder but not in other readers.

This bug has only been reported for versions before 4.14, which have been unsupported for at least two years now. Can anyone tell if this bug still present?

If noone confirms this bug for a Framework-based version of kontact (version 5.0 or later, as part of KDE Applications 15.08 or later), it gets closed in about three months.

Just as announced in my last comment, I close this bug. If you encounter it again in a recent version (at least 5.0 aka 15.08), please open a new one unless it already exists. Thank you for all your input.
