This looks related to bug 200953 or bug 208695 - Do you have PolicyKit installed ? Thanks Installing PolicyKit solved the problem. I had libpolkit installed and polkit-qt compiled without errors so I thought this is enough. I believe it should have some way of telling me that PolicyKit is not installed.
