Description Simon 2009-11-08 12:04:50 UTC
Version: 1.0.0-beta6 (rev.: 1039716) (using 4.3.2 (KDE 4.3.2), Debian packages)
Compiler:          cc
OS:                Linux (i686) release 2.6.31-5.slh.4-sidux-686

Manual is translated as Handbuch (the manual) and not as Manuell (do something manually).

I cannot change it. I've applied to the l10n team a few months ago but nobody from the German l10n team seemed to care about that (I still have no login). So someone of you will have to fix it.
Comment 1 Frederik Schwarzer 2009-11-08 20:26:46 UTC
If you refer to some earlier conversation, please state links.
The German team does care... how did you contact us?

(sorry, there is much stuff going on so it is hard to remember everything)

Hi,

Taking a look at the current digikam.po file, I assume you mean this string/translation:
#: utilities/cameragui/camerainfodialog.cpp:69
msgid "Manual"
msgstr "Handbuch"

If I open up that cpp file it looks like this:

KPageWidgetItem *p2 = addPage(manualView, i18n("Manual"));
p2->setHeader( i18n("Device Manual") );
p2->setIcon( KIcon("help-contents") );

So I'm not quite sure...
Could you please provide me a screenshot of the dialog that shows the wrong translation?

@Gilles
Do you know how it is actually "meant"?
Could you please add it to the strings context? (If digiKam is not in String freeze yet)
Comment 3 Frederik Schwarzer 2009-11-08 20:45:55 UTC
I can see the following "Manual"s:

digikam.po-#: digikam/digikamapp.cpp:1203
digikam.po:msgid "Add Camera Manually..."
digikam.po-msgstr "Kamera manuell hinzufügen ..."

digikam.po-#: imageplugins/freerotation/freerotationtool.cpp:289
digikam.po:msgid "Manual Adjustment"
digikam.po-msgstr "Manuelle Anpassung"

digikam.po-#: utilities/cameragui/camerainfodialog.cpp:69
digikam.po:msgid "Manual"
digikam.po-msgstr "Handbuch"

This actually IS a manual: the string below belongs to the same dialog.

digikam.po-#: utilities/cameragui/camerainfodialog.cpp:70
digikam.po:msgid "Device Manual"
digikam.po-msgstr "Geräte-Handbuch"

digikam.po:#~ msgctxt "Manual Image Renaming"
digikam.po:#~ msgid "Manual"
digikam.po-#~ msgstr "Manuell"

digikam.po-#, fuzzy
digikam.po-#~| msgid "Cameras (Add)"
digikam.po:#~ msgid "Cameras (Manually Added)"
digikam.po-#~ msgstr "Kameras (hinzufügen)"

kipiplugin_facebook.po-#: fbwidget.cpp:321
kipiplugin_facebook.po:msgid "Manual upload approval"
kipiplugin_facebook.po-msgstr "Manuelles Genehmigen des Hochladens"

kipiplugin_metadataedit.po-#: exifdevice.cpp:182 exifdevice.cpp:198 exiflight.cpp:193
kipiplugin_metadataedit.po:msgid "Manual"
kipiplugin_metadataedit.po-msgstr "Manuell"

Maybe you could tell us, where you find the wrong translation?

Wrong translation of «Manual»

$ apt-cache policy digikam

Comment 5 Simon 2009-11-09 09:23:06 UTC
This is how it looks like in the beta5 package (debian).

@Frederik August 7th. I got login/pw for l10n.kde.org but
> Please now wait to be accepted by the team administrators.
I'm still waiting. Perhaps I forgot something?
Comment 6 Frederik Schwarzer 2009-11-09 10:01:34 UTC
@Caulier: Could you please tell us where the strings in that "Method" drop-down box (btw, is there a colon missing?) are coming from?

@Simon: I do not know to what extent the team page on l10n.kde.org is used (I am not the team admin). A better way of contacting us might be the mailing list kde-i18n-de.

This string is here
trunk kdegraphics//libkdcraw.po
#: libkdcraw/dcrawsettingswidget.cpp:279
msgid "Manual"
msgstr "Manuell"

branch kdegraphics//libkdcraw.po
#: libkdcraw/dcrawsettingswidget.cpp:291
msgid "Manual"
msgstr "Manuell"

and at least since rev 879013 this is translated as "Manuell".

in trunk this translation "Manuell" is used, but in my Kubuntu 9.04 digikam (1.0.0-beta) I also have the wrong translation "Handbuch".

@Simon: I guess you tried to login on l10n.kde.org, but that are only accounts for KDE Localization teams. Seems we need to talk with Nicolas Terniesen to make this clearer.
For german translation bugs please use bugs.kde.org Product "i18n" and Component "de".

Yes, I did. I slightly remember this was written somewhere when I was searching on digikam.org about how to help translating digikam. (Do I need to mention that it was a pain? It was like «hey, don't even think of translating anything here». But anyway.)

Ok, I'll try to remember.
Comment 9 Frederik Schwarzer 2009-11-09 23:04:25 UTC
I just built kipi-plugins and digikam from trunk and it is still translated as "Handbuch". I posted to kde-i18n-doc to ask for more input.
