Description Roman Fietze 2009-11-04 07:32:52 UTC
Version: (using KDE 4.3.3)
Installed from: openSUSE RPMs

I tried to view a page containing a Java applet, e.g.

  http://java.sun.com/products/plugin/1.5.0/demos/applets/Clock/example1.html

And got the message that the browser ignores the applet tag totally.

Then I just went into Settings -> Configure Konqueror -> Java & JavaScript. There I found everything enabled and "java" in the Java executable path field. After simply removing the last 'a' from "java", then "Apply", then adding the 'a' again, clicking "Apply" again, everything worked.

This happened on multiple machines, all KDE 4.3.3, i586 and x86_64.

Reproducability of course just once, but until now on every machine I found. I cannot tell since when Java didn't work, I assume it was some JDK or JRE update from the openSUSE repos.

BTW, when I got the applet showing up, it stopped showing the image in the attachment. Probably worth another bug report. It works using Firefox.

I confirm this bug with KDE-4.3.4 on ubuntu 9.10 with 64 bits machine ; fixing this is top priority as we need a fully operational browser for the KDE software suite and not another browser like Aora.

A browser like this is the best way to discourage people of using Linux.

Still valid on 4.5.0.
