Version:           2.1 Beta 3 (using 4.3.2 (KDE 4.3.2), MS Visual Studio 2008 SP1)
Compiler:          cl.exe
OS:                Microsoft Windows (i686) release 5.1 (XP Professional)

On opening small .jpg files (using windows XP version of koffice) Krita responds with dialog box which says "could not open <file>.jpg Reason: cannot create storage.

The same happens for TIFF files (cannot create storage). 

After such, does not respond to opening any file.

If the .jpg file is large (e.g. 3000 X 4000 pixels) Krita crashes entirely, and the MS Windows "crash reporter" appears. 

These things are reproduceable.

Thanks for your report. We already had this issue reported as bug 209652. (Though we haven't found a solution yet).
