Version:           3.5 (using KDE 4.3.2)
OS:                Linux
Installed from:    Archlinux Packages

If one clicks at the kmix volume control in the systems tray, it appears.  If clicked again, it disappears.  All fine.  

But if one hovers over it and changes the volume via the mouse wheel, clicking it and trying to make it disappear by clicking it again or clicking at some free space doesn't work.

Workaround: A right mouse button click to makes it disappear (thx to #kde)

I can confirm this on Archlinux x86_64 and KDE 4.3.2
