Description Ritesh Raj Sarraf 2009-10-18 08:39:53 UTC
Version: (using KDE 4.3.2)
OS: Linux
Installed from: Debian testing/unstable Packages

While knode is still one of the best news clients, it now has started showing its age especially when compared to other KDE applications.

Since kmail is going to be ported to akonadi now, I think this should be the right timing to make this wishlist.

Keeping knode separate from kmail has banished it from having many of the enhancements that it could have had automatically.
And there is no bad reason for that. kmail is a much more widely used application compared to knode. But still, IMO they could co-exist and leverage the enhancements together.

For example: kmail received the latest new Fancy mail threading (which by the way is awesome). This feature could have been used by knode too, only if there were common.

Also by separating them, we make users to remember 2 interfaces.
Take this bug report as example.

Can we have a NNTP account type in kmail ?
Perhaps, we could just add that and see the change. Eventually, if users completely switch to the NNTP resource in kmail, knode could just be retired.
