Sentry Crash Report:

Description m.wege 2009-10-16 09:00:24 UTC
Version: (using KDE 4.3.2)
Installed from: Ubuntu Packages

I just saw SVN commit 1035849, which is a good idea BTW. It is really the best way, if people report their bugs in English. But I believe this may be not realistic, if KDE/Linux gets adopted on a larger scale. There will be people, who use Linux and wont be able to do this in English. Especially crash reports seem important to me, they could even relate to a locale problem.
Therefor my wish would be a button
[x] crash report will be in another language: [choose] (default set to the locale used by the user)
If the user checks this box a popup will ask him if he really is not able to report this in English. The popup should have an option [x] do not ask me again.
The crash report should then contain an indicator about the language and may be even automatically subscribe a translator who understands that language.

You overestimate the effect of the commit. The KLineEdit is only visible for applications that are not part of KDE. It does not affect the crash reporting tool either.

Christoph is right... the commit is only for the "Report Bug" dialog, for non KDE applications.... DrKonqi isn't even touched.

In DrKonqi we say "please use english"... but we still get reports in other languages (note that we don't force english spell checking)

Including a "language" flag and translators will also involve changes on bugzilla itself... It seems like an utopia, but.. who knows...

Sorry, not going to happen. I actually would propose and plan the opposite: inform users they should only use English in the very first page of the assistant, instead of some pages later .

For anyone who has worked on bugs.kde.org for some time as a developer or bug triager, I bet he/she hates every (crash) report not written in English. It might sound rude or arrogant, but for a bug tracker used by developers from so many different countries, English was/is/will be the only reliable language for communication. If a (crash) report is not written in English, the it is useless except the backtrace. And developers just can't ask questions and expect the reporters to provide feedback.

PS: You can judge from my name that English is not my native language. I'm not closing this report because I enjoy using English .
