Description Matthias Bach 2009-10-15 19:11:55 UTC
Version: (using KDE 4.3.2)
Installed from: SuSE RPMs

Usually one does not only have different desktops for different things one does, but also different online identity aka email addresses. E.g. one for work, one for university, one for open source and one for private communication. While KMail nicely supports having multiple Identities it does not yet perfectly fit in with the new KDE4 workflow of having multiple activities. Ideally the identity chosen for a new email would not only be chosen by the default and the current folder, but, especially when launched from a link or the tray, from the current Activity / Desktop.

Biggest benefit of this would be, that it would not only save you a selection in the drop down, but also greatly reduce the risk of accidentally using the wrong email address, as this automatically binds your email address to the environment which triggered your decision to write an email. Okay, except in the "rare" case where writing the email is triggered from something outside your PC. ;)

Except for "but, especially when launched from a link or the tray, from the current Activity / Desktop" I greatly support this. But I think a more broad approach would be better:

First, Kmail should offer an option that'd say "consider current activity" and then, depending on the current activity, kmail would use a different default email address (or other kmail settings).

Second, I think activities shouldn't affect the desktop only (or additionally kmail only) but just any other application. So, say, if I'm in the activity of "leisure" and using a movie player, the screen saver should go off implicitly, and power devil should keep from shutting etc.

So, I think this feature request shouldn't go to kmail but to plasma.

Thank you for your feature request. Kmail1 is currently unmaintained so we are closing all wishes. Please feel free to reopen a feature request for Kmail2 if it has not already been implemented.
Thank you for your understanding.

Instead of creating a new feature request, please confirm here if the wishlist is still valid for kmail2.
