Description
KDE Brainstorm Submissions
2009-10-13 22:40:11 UTC
There is a separate "kinfocenter" application that is part of the KDE desktop. Unfortunately, it seems to be hidden in "System" menu, instead of being accessible in systemsettings. In previous KDE versions, both "changeable settings" and "viewable information" where part of kcontrol. Since KDE3 at least, these two have been splitted to two applications. I am not sure how "brainstorm" submissions are handled. Do you read comments, and decide to close the bug after discussing the comments here? It was decided that since the idea is specifically for having the feature in system settings it is a valid idea because, as you said, kinfocenter is not part of systemsetting. I have coded up a KCM device viewer based on solid, its in playground under kcm_devinfo i think. The problem is i am not sure where to place it, its in KInfocenter at the moment under device information. Should it go into KInfoCenter or System Settings. Should it be added as an individual module in System Settings or make a tabbed table view in the solid Hardware kcm with the viewer in one tab and the choice selection in another? I believe the KCM should go under KInfoCenter, since it is information, and thus belongs there. An external application link between System Settings to KInfoCenter should probably be created. Can I propose that we change the "Hardware" KCM's name to "Component Chooser" or similar? I think the name is a bit vague. The plan is to have this KCM disappear completely anyway. Likely around 4.6 time. |
