kdvi uses an old version of the kpathsea library. The latest
versions of TeX use 3.2.0. This way no fonts are found.
I am using PostScript fonts.
 Please upgrade!!

Hello

some time ago you submitted a bug report concerning the kdvi previewer.
In essence the problem was that kdvi did not find "texmf.cnf" and
therefore did not find the directory where pk- or virtual fonts were
stored. Please accept my apologies if your bug report was not properly
answered for a long time. I took up the maintenance of KDVI only a
couple of months ago and I was very busy recently.

The problem has been solved now and the new kdvi which will be part of
the KDE 2.0 distribution will (hopefully!) not show the bug anymore. If
you want to try kdvi right now please make sure that

a) you have a recent version of TeX preferably the  teTeX distribution
installed. Make sure that the TeX installation tree contains the file
"web2c/texmf.cnf". Right now kdvi causes problems with older TeX
distributions e.g. distributions which are often found on Solaris
machines.

b) make sure that you use the NEWEST CVS sources. Start with a fresh
source tree and run "make -f Makefile.cvs" and "./configure ...". That
way you will make sure that there are no old configuration files lying
about.

I am currently working on a version of kdvi which works with all TeX
distributions even very old ones. This new font finding scheme will
however not be finished in time for KDE2.0. Thus I ask four your
patience. KDE2.1 will probably come with a greatly improved kdvi which
solves many of the still outstanding problems.

KDVI should now run on all major Linux distributions. Please let me know
if you are experiencing problems.
