Following situation: 

- Use yakuake, and have it 90% of the width of the screen. My screen resolution here is 1440x900
-> workArea correctly report 1440x900
- Connect an external screen which is larger (1920x1280 here)
-> workArea correctly reports 1920x1280
- Disconnect the external screen 
-> workArea still reports 1920x1280

The effect of this is, that e.g. yakuake uses more space than is provided. Also, the logout button (when I go to logout) is not centered w.r.t 1440x900 but w.r.t the larger resolution

Is this actually still an issue? (the screengeometry backend has been changed)
If yes, is it also an issue if you change the resolution on one screen via xrandr?
