Version: (using KDE 4.3.1)
Installed from: SuSE RPMs

I've noticed this problem with the Kontact's / Korganizer's management of shortcuts starting with the first version KDE 4:

In the 'Configure shortcuts dialog', a lot of actions (such as 'create new ...', define shortcuts, etc.) appear in both the sections for Kontact as well as for Korganizer, and with the same shortcut.

This apparently creates shortcut conflicts because trying to use one of these 'double' shortcut usually yields an error message 'The key sequence xxx is ambiguous ... No action will be triggered', making the shortcuts useless.

I'm not sure what the rationale was for having double entries / shortcuts for the same action in Kontact and in Korganizer, but this apparently needs to be changed.

Redefining these shortcuts is not really an option because (1) it doesn't make sense to have more than 1 shortcut for the same action, and (2) some shortcuts are not defined by Kontact in the first place, but are system-wide (e.g. I have a system-wide shortcut <F11> for 'Configuring shortcuts'; fiddling with this one in Kontact is likely to create confusion and/or problems).

This also seems to occur with KMail shortcuts in Kontact. THis make Kontact useless for managing large numbers of emails, since I can't even hit "del" to delete an email.

This bug has only been reported for versions before 4.14, which have been unsupported for at least two years now. Can anyone tell if this bug still present?

If noone confirms this bug for a Framework-based version of kontact (version 5.0 or later, as part of KDE Applications 15.08 or later), it gets closed in about three months.

Just as announced in my last comment, I close this bug. If you encounter it again in a recent version (at least 5.0 aka 15.08), please open a new one unless it already exists. Thank you for all your input.
