If you can reproduce the crash at will, may you read http://techbase.kde.org/Development/Tutorials/Debugging/How_to_create_useful_crash_reports and post a complete backtrace here? Thanks Dear Linux Community, https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=206929 AND I still have no top or bottom panels. Perhaps I should erase and reinstall for the third time in three days? Do you really believe that my CLU father, pianist mother, architect sister, psychologist brother, court clerk neighbor, elementary schools, dentist, lawyer, or most freinds could comply with with your bug reporting request. It would be wonderful if they could. Does the Linux Community really believe that they can go primetime for the masses. https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=206929 Most offices will not have this level of sophistication until 2 or more semesters of Computer Science are required for EVERY graduate. Otherwise your bug reporting expectations are unreasonable. It will turn potential Linux advocates off, and away. Like me... Thomas Z Green, Jr Systems & Network Integration P.O. By the way, you are not mentioning your KDE4 version nor what where you doing when the application crashed. Without this crucial data it is really difficult to fix bugs. I can guess you are using KDE<4.3; as KDE 4.3 comes with an userfriendly crash reports. You can't blame this report, nor this crash, nor me, nor even KDE for your bad experience. I'm willing to help you if you are willing to cooperate. I'm also sure about there are a lot of people willing to help you out there, you just need to ask in the proper place. (may be you should start asking in your GNU/Linux distribution forums) Regards Dario Andres KDE Bug Triaging Team Hi Dario, I downloaded: ubuntu-9.04-desktop-i386.iso ubuntu-9.04-netbook-remix-i386.img I installed: ubuntu-9.04-desktop-i386.iso on a Toshiba On Sat, Sep 12, 2009 at 1:32 PM, Dario Andres <andresbajotierra@gmail.com> wrote: > https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=206929 > > > > > > --- Comment #3 from Dario Andres <andresbajotierra gmail com> 2009-09-12 22:32:30 --- > If you tell me your GNU/Linux distribution I can gently tell you what packages > install and what to do in order to provide an useful backtrace; and then > finally get the needed information to be able fix the bug. I recommend you to ask for user support of Ubuntu Linux in its forums: www.ubuntuforums.org. Also, there are plenty of user-guides in Internet about the basics of the Ubuntu and GNU/Linux in general terms. This place (bugs.kde.org) is only used to report bugs and errors about a small application set (the "KDE environment") which the application you were testing (and it crash/failed) belongs to. But we don't support the whole application set that Ubuntu contains nor the whole distribution utilities neither. The bugtracker of the Ubuntu distribution is on https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/ As Ubuntu (as mostly all the GNU/Linux distributions) contains a lot of different application sets, it is difficult to have a centralized support place. Anyways, the Ubuntu bugtracker accepts all the errors of the aplications it distributes (and then they move the bug reports to the corresponding tracker , if needed). About the "panels" issue you are mentioning. If you are using Ubuntu, then you are using the GNOME desktop environment by default. You may try to ask for user support on http://gnomesupport.org/forums/ I hope this tips can help you a bit Regards Dario Dear Bug Submitter, This bug has been in NEEDSINFO status with no change for at least 15 days.
