Description David Rankin 2009-09-04 23:46:27 UTC
Version: (using KDE 4.3.0)
Installed from: SuSE RPMs

Throughout the kde3 (beta whatever version) testing process and then with 4.3.0 the kde4 applications all defaulted to saving jpeg images with 4-character .jpeg extensions instead of .jpg which was annoying as all heck given 15 years of photos saved as .jpg and now all the ratty .jpeg ones sticking out like sore thumbs. Not to mention the format messing up every bash script I had to deal with photos and imagemagik.

Now in 4.3.1 some kde4 apps have gone back to .jpg extensions -- THANK YOU. But, ksnapshot still forces the save as .jpeg or it lists the file as not jpeg, but "all supported" formats. See:

Please fix ksnapshot too.

I think this is down to the ordering of the extensions listed in the jpeg.deskop installed by kimageio. KSnapshot uses the first in the list as this is usually the prefered extension. Whilst I personally don't see anything wrong with defaulting to .jpeg rather than .jpg I'll reassign it to kimageio so the maintainer of that can decide.
