Hi

I have some thoughts on use of KDE on laptops. They are 
mostly "nice to have" features but quite worth thinking 
about IMHO. One thing I like about KDE is that you get the 
impression developers have actually *thought* about their 
features instead of just inserting them somewhere.

When switching to battery power I have set the APM to 
enter runlevel 4 which is configured with minimal battery 
loss (no cron no apache/mysql/etc which I need during 
presentations some times). KDE already notices the change 
(the APM utility in the tray bar) but does not pass this 
to applications. Some ideas:


- Konqueror should stop rendering thumbnails (or icons 
altogether) if so configured and instead perhaps display a 
small "battery" sign in the status bar. Saves a lot of CPU 
cycles.

- Applets like kbiff should optionally disable and perhaps 
quit altogether because it's not really likely that you 
receive mail from the network when you're on battery 
power. ;)

- Disable animation effects (like minimize/restore 
animations).


Anyway just some thoughts. Perhaps some of you think 
about it. I'd certainly appreciate it :-)
