I try to assign the key '+' to the action "Next unread message". This works directly after assigning. However after restarting knode the setting is lost.

This also happens with keys that are not yet assigned and if I use the alternative assignment.

I can not reproduce your issue.

Do this happens only in KNode or also in other application ?

It also happens in kmail. Maybe this is a global bug. Can you change the component?
