Description Torbjörn Andersson 2009-08-18 14:18:37 UTC
Version: (using KDE 4.3.0)
OS: Linux
Installed from: Debian testing/unstable Packages

I'm not sure if this is a bug in the panel or in plasma. For all I know, it could be in X11 or the driver for my graphics card.

I'm running unstable Debian's KDE packages (currently 4.3.0, though the problem happened in earlier versions as well). My graphics card is a Radeon X800, and I use the open source drivers for it. I don't use any fancy desktop effects.

What happens is that sometimes when I let the mouse hover over an item in a panel so that a tooltip is displayed, it clears the screen where the previous panel tooltip (which is no longer visible) was displayed. It looks something like in this screenshot fragment: http://www.update.uu.se/~d91tan/kde-glitch.png

(Though in this picture, it has redrawn the outer frame of the window. That's not usually the case. I think KSnapshot may have triggered that.)

The glitch is rather unpredictable, but seems to happen most frequently when moving from one panel to another. I have the standard panel at the bottom of the screen, and an auto-hidden panel with shortcuts to various programs at the top of the screen.

I'm sorry for the vagueness of this bug report. Please let me know what details would be useful to help determine what goes wrong.

This is clearly a Xorg bug, I was able to write a xlib-only testcas (as I was asked for), but then nothing happend.
