Description Janet 2009-08-16 15:02:43 UTC
Version: 4.3.00 (KDE 4.3.0) (using 4.3.00 (KDE 4.3.0), Debian packages)
Compiler: cc
OS: Linux (i686) release 2.6.30-4.slh.2-sidux-686

By now it is not possible to use ebay(.de) with konqueror. On the products' pages the part with the description is missing. Instead it shows a huge blank frame with a scrollbar. Works fine with firefox.

Strangely it does work rarely when I mask konqueror as Internet Explorer 5/Mac or Chrome though but choosing another useragent and back to that one that worked it doesn't work anymore.

For me it does work now...
Comment 3 Q 2009-08-29 22:20:27 UTC
Well it still doesn't work for me...
Huge scrollbar when viewing an item.

Same for me (OpenSuSE 11.2, KDE 4.4RC2)
Comment 7 Janet 2009-12-22 12:20:07 UTC
I'm not sure if anything can be done in this case by the konq devs, I guess we all have to convince ebay (ha ha) to treat konqueror like Safari or Chrome for cgi.ebay.de/com...

Are you sure?

@Comment #7:
> I guess we all have to convince ebay ...
konqueror is already able to send fake browser id but it does not help in this case.

BTW webkit based rekonq renders these description frames properly.

Why is this bug still unconfirmed?
Comment 9 Janet 2009-12-29 01:44:54 UTC
@Comment #8: Yes, I am sure. It does work now permanently when I use the useragent safari, on sidux and kubuntu.
Comment 10 Alexander Wigen 2010-04-01 13:45:25 UTC
Using Safari 3.1 as the user agent fixed it for me too on ebay.com.au

It's also the same in the upcoming 4.5, huge blank space and unsing Safari as user agent workarounds the problem.
Comment 13 yuzyk 2010-11-15 19:14:55 UTC
In 4.5.2, using the WebKit view mode shows the frame contents, but then the pop-up image at the top-left doesn't work - it opens a new blank tab and a new blank window.

btw, this blank frame has affected Konqueror since 3.5.x - when eBay went to a framed layout - so it's endemic to KHTML.
Comment 14 Janet 2010-12-05 07:57:55 UTC
It's not endemic to KHTML, it's endemic to ebay's ignorance bacause using another useragent does workaround that problem. I guess the problem is that ebay needs to be convinced to use the same side profile for konqueror as for safari (same as facebook which does not show the chat when konqueror is marked as konqueror).
Comment 15 Janet 2010-12-05 07:59:43 UTC
Or the konqueror useragent string needs to contain something that triggers the safari profile of certain webpages!

Dear user,

KHTML (and KJS) was a long time more or less unmaintained and got removed in KF6.

Please migrate to use a QWebEngine based HTML component.

We will do no further fixes or improvements to the KF5 branches of these components beside important security fixes.

For security issues, please see:

https://kde.org/info/security/

Sorry that we did not fix this issue during the life-time of KHTML.

Greetings
Christoph Cullmann
