Description Fabio 2009-08-11 23:18:04 UTC
Version: (using KDE 4.3.0)
OS: Linux
Installed from: RedHat RPMs

I've update my kde from version 4.2.4 to version 4.3.0 and after the update the Show Dashborad Shortcut (ctrl-f12) dind't work.
Going to system-settings -> Keyboard & Mouse -> Global Keyboard Shortcut I
found that Show Dashboard 'Plasma Workspace' was set to custom but without any
key combination. Setting to default make shortcut works again. Before upgrade
to kde 4.3.0 ctrl-f12 was bind to "Show Dashboard".
Is there any problem with shortcut when migrating from kde-4.2.4 to 4.3.0 ?
Note: if I create a new user ctrl-f12 works as expected...
Comment 1 Christos Lazaridis 2009-08-12 10:45:29 UTC
I can confirm that the shortcut had changed to "Custom" without any set combination after upgrading.

I haven't tried creating a new user to test if it works then.

Does it works ALT+F1 for the kickoff menu or has it been disabled too?
Comment 3 Fabio 2009-08-12 17:13:36 UTC
Yes ALT-F1 works, it's just CTRL-F12 that was unbind after the upgrade
Comment 4 Fabio 2009-08-12 17:27:14 UTC
Just a clarification, ALT-F1 works but I've tried only after that I've set back to "default" the CRTL-F12 shortcut. I didn't tried ALT-F1 just after the upgrate to 4.3.0.

kglobalshortcutsrc changed incompatibly and needs a kconf_update script (the file has been touched by other kconf_update scripts in the past, so kconf_update should work on that file):

* in 4.2, the setting looked like:
[plasma]
Show Dashboard=Ctrl+F12,Ctrl+F12,Dashboard anzeigen

* in 4.3, the group needs to be changed to plasma-desktop (an unfortunate side effect of the rename):
[plasma-desktop]
Show Dashboard=Ctrl+F12,Ctrl+F12,Dashboard anzeigen

(FWIW, the localized string should probably not be in the config file, but that is unrelated to the bug at hand.)
Comment 6 Kevin Kofler 2009-08-25 08:53:31 UTC
It turns out such a kconf_update script is already present (plasma-to-plasmadesktop-shortcuts.upd, installed from kdebase/workspace/plasma/shells/desktop/configupdates) and working for some people, but not for everyone.

I do not experience this issue with KDE SC 4.3.4.

Do you still have this problem with the latest software version?

I've updated my fedora 12 from kde 4.3.3 to KDE SC 4.3.4 without loosing the "show dashboard" shortcut. So currently every thing is working.
Comment 9 Kevin Kofler 2010-01-05 14:31:56 UTC
Nonsense. This is about migration from 4.2 to 4.3, so of course migrating from one 4.3.x to another is not going to reproduce the problem. That doesn't prove that it's fixed at all.
Comment 10 Beat Wolf 2010-01-12 17:15:03 UTC
Sadly the 4.3 branch is closed, so this bug cannot be fixed there. So we kind of have to close this bug.
Comment 11 Rex Dieter 2010-01-12 17:19:18 UTC
Rumors of 4.3 branch demise are greatly exaggerated (in fact, a 4.3.5 release is coming near the end of the month).
Comment 12 Kevin Kofler 2010-01-12 17:29:26 UTC
VERIFIED doesn't mean what you think it means. (It means "verified as fixed".)
Comment 13 Kevin Kofler 2010-01-12 17:30:35 UTC
In addition, (direct) migration from 4.2 to 4.4 also needs to be tested, the bug might still be there for that case as well.
Comment 14 Beat Wolf 2010-01-12 17:35:03 UTC
could somebody update http://techbase.kde.org/Schedules/KDE4/4.3_Release_Schedule
with the 4.3.5 release? thank you
Comment 15 Aaron J. Seigo 2010-05-09 01:59:13 UTC
we're on to 4.5 at this point; and if it isn't fixed by now, it never will be.
