It would be very useful to have the places sidebar in dolphin and the file dialog populated by some or all of the xdg-user-dirs. I see that they are provided by KGlobalSettings in kde 4.3.

documentPath(), videosPath(), picturesPath(), musicPath() and perhaps downloadPath() would all be nice.

I forgot to add that each of the xdg user dirs should have an appropriate icon. I'm not sure if KDE/Qt already provides the infrastructure for this, or whether there are appropriate icons defined in some freedesktop naming scheme.

Add Desktop and Downloads to the default list of Places

Summary:
Add Desktop and Downloads to the default list of places, for the following reasons:
1. The Desktop and Downloads folders are heavily used by average users, and making them accessible by default from Dolphin and file open/save dialogs is a big usability win
2. We'll have space to do it without cluttering up the panel from having removed some un-useful entries in {D11767}

Created a new user account, logged into it, and opened Dolphin:
