I believe this has been asked for about a million times so feel free to RESDUP this request...

The pager is about the only thing that can make your virtual desktops into N rows and there are people who keep it around only for this thing alone!

I remember vaguely that in kde3 there was a dcop call to do this by hand, but there seems to be no such thing now.
