Description Christian 2009-08-05 15:34:49 UTC
Version: 2.3 (using 4.3.00 (KDE 4.3.0), Arch Linux)
Compiler: gcc
OS: Linux (i686) release 2.6.30-ARCH

In 4.2 the transparency of the Konsole background worked fine.
After the update to 4.3 this stopped working. Normal Transparency of KWin works fine.

How to Reproduce:
Try transparency within Konsole

Do you have compositing (desktop effects) enabled?
Comment 2 Christian 2009-08-05 19:09:53 UTC
Yes I have. Like I said the other effects work fine... And the same config worked in 4.2. If you need more info I am happy to help.
Comment 3 Christian 2009-08-05 23:45:39 UTC
hmmm I updated another KDE and it works there...

The machine with the problem has an ATI Graka FireGL 5250 and uses radeon_hd as grafics driver...

I just enabled desktop effects in my shiny new KDE 4.3... And I'm missing konsole transparency as well. This is Gentoo Linux with:

Kernel 2.6.31-rc6-git3
media-libs/mesa-7.5-r2
x11-base/xorg-server-1.6.3
x11-drivers/xf86-video-intel-2.8.0

I'm also missing transparency in konsole. It works in gnome-terminal. Other effects also work, like making the whole window transparent when I move or resize it (be it konsole or any other window). This is true for both of my systems:

Ubuntu 9.10 beta and Debian unstable, both with KDE 4.3.2 (but with different video chipsets, i.e. ATI and Nvidia, and with different settings, i.e. OpenGL vs XRender).

I just restarted my computer, and now transparency in konsole is working. Before the reboot I left a konsole open, which should have been about 30% transparent, but was not. But after the reboot it works. Still there seems to be a bug in the activation.

Hello Vlado,

Currently if you start Konsole with desktop compositing disabled and then later enable compositing you have to close all Konsole windows and reopen one to see the transparency setting take effect.
