If you drag and drop an application to the destkop, not to a folder view, does it ask you something on click? I've just tried to drop an application from the kickoff menu. After I've clicked on the new .desktop file and the application simply starts. Can you provide a screenshot of the confirmation dialog? The confirmation dialog progress was tracked at bug 73865. Created attachment 35874 [details]

Dragging it onto the desktop doesn't ask for confirmation. A desktop file dragged into any folder in dolphin also asks. Additional note: dragging into folder view, and then dragging from folder-view onto desktop also asks for confirmation. Some more occasions when I find this dialog annoying: I use to write .desktop files for some open-source games. It even wants me to confirm to run my newly written ones Also, when installing some windows-game in wine, it usually creates a desktop entry, which also want confirmation If the .desktop file is allowed for other reasons then KDE should probably ensure the +x bit is set when copying the file (this could be called a KDE bug perhaps) If you write your own .desktop files, and you want them to be executable, you must make them executable just like any other application (you can use Dolphin, Konqueror, or even plain chmod for this). KDE and GNOME didn't use to check for this, an issue now fixed. *** Bug 203304 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. *** Dear Bug Submitter, This bug has been stagnant for a long time.
