Description Tanja Schulte 2009-08-02 15:15:10 UTC
Version: (using KDE 4.2.98)
OS: Linux
Installed from: Ubuntu Packages

The new graphical email view mode looks really nice and I'd love to use it. But it is missing an IMHO important information in the mail header: the from address. I use several email addresses, so do people who write to me, all with the same user name, and it really isn't of much use to see just my/their name in the from field in the header, I need to see the email address of the person who wrote the message. E.g. I need to see if the person is writing from his/her private account or is at the office. This also is a security feature. Can you please add the sender's email address to the graphical view mode?

I imagine you are talking about Headers (Enterprise Headers, Fancy Headers, .....).
If they do not show the mail address in the header, it is shown in the status bar when the mouse is over the address.
Also, you can change what type of headers view you like in View|Headers|....

If this is enough, please close this wish as resolved.
Thank you.

If you are talking about the new message list, then you are right.
At least, the complete address should be shown in the tip.

Sorry for not being precise enough: I am talking about the headers. I don't now how they are called in English, I just translated the German names. I guess that in German called "Graphical" mode (the one with the envelope picture) is the Enterprise Header.

For me it is not really enough to have the sender's email address shown in the status bar on mouseover, I want to see it at one glance when I look at the mail, without the need to a) use the mouse and b) eyetravel from top to bottom of the screen. Yes, I could switch to another header (I was always using the decorative one, guess it's name is fancy in English) but they don't look as good as the envelope one. I don't see any reason why just the fanciest header shouldn't show the sender's email address?

Revert r1009406, apparently that was by design.

Fixed? Reverted?
Comment 7 Janet 2009-11-07 15:40:12 UTC
As this obviously isn't fixed because the fix was reverted can you please change the resolution to WONTFIX or still open or so? The enterprise header looks nice but IMHO no header should hide the addresses by default as it is a security issue. It is not enough to show them on mouseover in the status bar. As it doesn't seem to be user configurable and it doesn't seem to be in the intention of the header designer to show the addresses maybe you can, as an alternative, add a second enterprise header which shows the addresses? KMail needs a fancy header like the enterprise header which at the same time is as informative as the other headers.
