Description Morten Sjoegren 2009-07-19 03:55:07 UTC
Version: (using KDE 4.2.96)

I recently got a tablet pc and so I need an onscreen keyboard in KDM for typing my password.

I could do as suggested in https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=164210 but I think it can/should be done in a better way then to disable a security feature and load an external application.

I suggest that as an option (disabled by default) an onscreen keyboard should be integrated into the login-dialog.
This should have a couple of benefits.
1. It'll look a lot better then having it as an window. And a lot better then the xvkbd application.
2. Option for disabling "securePointer()" as suggested in #164210 is no longer needed since the keyboard is part of the same window as the login dialog.

There is already a decent onsceen keyboard in playground (kvkbd), this could be used as an base.

seems like a good idea irrespective of the resolution of the other bug. however, it should be preferably done via a very generic plugin system - like plasma.

The wish is older than 2 years, but there is atm no resolution for KDM4. An onscreen keyboard is important if you use a tablet or touchpc.

please add maliit to login screen if possible
Comment 6 Hannes Schniepp 2016-04-05 20:37:12 UTC
It's worse in plasma 5, where there is no onscreen keyboard/virtual keyboard at all for both the screen locker, and the display manager. This makes plasma 5 unusable on tablet computers.

KDM is unmaintained and not used in KDE Plasma 5.

SDDM is the login manager used in KDE Plasma 5. If you still have this same issue with SDDM, please file an issue on the SDDM bugtracker (after doing a search for existing issues first!): https://github.com/sddm/sddm/issues/
