Description Steven Vollom 2009-07-17 17:03:34 UTC
Version: 4.2.2 (using KDE 4.2.2)
OS: Linux
Installed from: I Don't Know

Best way is to produce an image of my desktop. file:///home/steven/Documents/videobugs.jpg I am not very experienced, so I don't know if what I just did worked; I tried to copy and paste a .jpg from my computer to you. It printed at the file mentioned above, but doesn't appear to be attached.

If this didn't work, how can I send an image so that you can see my problem? Can you recommend a source for information that will help me to help you better with bug reports. I want to help and will be careful and thorough, if I can learn the proper procedure. stevenvollom@sbcglobal.net

I also installed the dbg package for kde. When I get a request to send the bug, I first check the 'Details' to see if there is something to send. Now that I have dbg installed, kate opens when I click on 'details'. If I am expected to repair the bug, I don't know how. I downloaded the dbg feature so I would have better information to send you, but when kate opens, it doesn't tell me what to do next, and it won't close by pressing the X in the corner. I have a copy minimized right now, because the only way to get it to leave is to reboot. As soon as I learn how to use these tools and features, I will be more helpful. Thanks for any reply. To show us the image, please use the "Add an attachment" link from this page. Also, please describe the problem or bug you found. You could also attach the "Details" you got when you get a crash. Thanks!
Comment 3 Michael Leupold 2009-07-17 17:21:23 UTC
The debug packages are only meant to help if your application crashes.

You can attach the image by saving it to your harddrive first and by then using the "Add an attachment" function on the bug.

Please also choose the correct product and component for your bug (usually product is the application that has the bug, component is the part of the application that has the bug). The "bugs.kde.org" component is only meant for reporting bugs with the bug tracking system (ie. this site).

If you are not sure if what you witnessed is a bug or not, you can post a request to forum.kde.org. They will be able to figure out what to do (ie. file a bug report or do something else to make the error go away).

As additional hint, you shouldn't put your mail address inside the bug report. It will be available automatically and like you did it above, it will be available to web spiders who might pick it up to send spam to you.

Hope I could help.

I am not sure how I send you the details. Do I copy the kate page and paste
it to the page that I am identifying the bug, when I file. I am sorry to be so
stupid, but I really want to help. I use my computer most hours of the day
and can be helpful, I believe. Thanks for your understanding.

Check the images I made. After taking the screenshot, click the "Add an attachment" link on the bug's page (http://imagebin.ca/view/fAmz5x9v.html). On the page that appears, upload the picture and click "submit" to send the image to us (http://imagebin.ca/view/F8iFbF.html).

I am pretty sure I sent you a pic of the desktop screen. Here is a pic of the
debug details result. I don't know if I am sending this right, but I wanted
to make sure you have it. When I get the system down, I will provide data t
he right way. Sorry to be so slow.

No, you didn't send it right. Please use the procedure I described in comment #5.

It has been a while since my last effort. I am trying again. I have two
images and am not sure which one to send. I am old and it takes a bit for
instructions to become solid with me. If you have a little patience, I will
get very good at this and will be prolific by always sending all bugs that
happen in the proper form eventually.

Your comment relating to right product, I believe it is kde, because the
desktop is affected as well as Konqueror and Kmail.

I understand about the email address, but I wanted to get this right and
without knowing how it works wanted a sure way for us to stay in touch. I
mostly get help; I would like to contribute too.

As far as witnessing whether it is a bug or not. It continues and is not
repairable so far. Kubuntu Users List has the posts too; no help so far. I
am trying to stay in touch with Dotan Cohen as best I am able to confirm the
process until I am used to it. Next time, I will check procedure with him
before I present you with the bug.
