Description Cong Qiao 2009-07-17 10:35:23 UTC
Version:            (using KDE 4.2.4)
OS:                Linux
Installed from:    Unlisted Binary Package

I am running Arch Linux with KDE. KDE is installed from the official binary packages repository of Arch Linux.
I already have several power profiles. Several minutes ago I could change the power profile as usual. Suddenly a message appears, saying that:
>>> The profile "" has been selected, but it does not exist!
>>> Please check your PowerDevil configuration.
Then it is impossible to change the power profile. The power profile stays at a profile whose name is empty.
In addition, the above message will appear if I modify settings in the Power Management program.
Reboot is useless, as well as deleting the directory "~/.kde/" and "~/.kde4/".

I can confirm that this is present in the KDEmod 4.2.96 packages (listed as RC2). The Powerdevil plasmoid shows a blank entry in the "Power Profile" drop-down list, and changing the profile does not work; if you select a different profile and dismiss the settings popup, the power settings do not appear to change, and checking the Powerdevil settings shows that it has reverted to the blank (presumably non-existent) entry. The profile configuration dialog does not show such a profile, so presumably its very existence is a bug.

I've found a workaround.
Edit /etc/pam.d/kde, and comment out a line like this:
>>> session	optional	pam_ck_connector.so
I am not clear about its mechanism. However, it works for me.

I have the same problem under KDE 4.3.2. I have changed the driver for my ATI graphics card (using the ATI driver now) which seems to have triggered the problem here.
