Version:           0.70.4 (using 4.2.4 (KDE 4.2.4), Kubuntu packages)
Compiler:          cc
OS:                Linux (i686) release 2.6.28-13-generic

Each time I start kopete, I have to reenter my Jabber account settings. Once set up and connected, everything works fine.

Could you check that you have write permissions on $HOME/.kde4/share/config/kopeterc ?
(ls -l $HOME/.kde4/share/config/kopeterc will give you the permissions and file owner.)
".kde4" could be ".kde" or ".kde4.2"

It's most likely a permissions problem. However, we need more information to reproduce and fix this bug. If you could provide the information requested in comment #1 and then reopen this bug, we'll take another look at fixing it.
