Description Rettich 2009-07-03 12:51:34 UTC
Version: (using KDE 4.2.90)
Installed from: SuSE RPMs

Everytime I login zu my Yahoo Account I get an anoying popup dialog which says (I'm not sure if I have translated it 100% correct):

Your own contact can not be added to the contact list. "xxx" will not be added to account "xxx".

I don't want to add myself to the contact list. But this message shows up every time a login.

I am also seeing this behaviour - worth noting that the error message blocks the interface - i.e. you can't add anything in a chat window etc until you click ok on the error.

Only seems to be an issue with Yahoo (at least, not an issue with XMPP or WLM)

(0.70.90 on KDE 4.3.0, Fedora)

I think I fixed it.

First I recognized that I had myself in the Yahoo address book. (I'm not sure if this is a problem, but I don't use this address book so I deleted myself.)

Then I deleted the Yahoo account in Kopete (only in Kopete!) and created a new one. I've never seen the message box again.

@Rettich - you mean the Yahoo contacts acessible via the web? I just checked that and I'm not in my contacts list. Actually deleted all my contacts anyway since I don't use yahoo other than messenger. I also can't see any indication that I'm in the local xml contactlist in Kopete.

So... still confused

like i said in a duplicate bug: why can't we add ourselves in the contact list? all the IMs I know of let you do that. it's very useful because you can see how others view your entry in the list. If that is not possible, please get rid of the error message.

Workaround - download the official Windows Yahoo client (if you have Windows), log in and delete yourself from the contacts list. Apologies to Rettich if that's what you meant in comment #2

Obviously this doesn't fix the underlying issue, but has got rid of the errors for me - for the moment at least.

The same thing is possible with Pidgin too :)

This is present in Kopete 0.80.2 (using Kubuntu KDE 4.3.2 - installed from packages). It appeared in 4.3.1, I think.

There is a solution to this one:
Go to - http://webmessenger.yahoo.com/ , sign in with your yahoo id. On the left you should see your contact list - if your own account is in there, remove it.

For some reason Kopete doesn't show your own account in the Kopete contact list, even though it is listed at Yahoo.

Hope that helps. As one reporter mentioned, the most annoying part of this is that the dialogue box locks up the entire Kopete interface, which makes Kopete a pain to use.

I experienced this problem but was not in my own contact list at Yahoo.

When I logged in to the Yahoo messenger web site it prompted me to create two verification questions (favorite pet etc.).

I made no other changes, and Kopete stopped bugging me about adding my own id.

It could be Kopete was bahaving badly in response to a message from there server.

I stand corrected (by myself). The 'cannot add' message just occurred later in the session, not when connecting to Yahoo.
