if you save the image file in <.pbm>, the picture becomes confused and no longer usable.

The latest release is a useful 3.5.10
The bugs are present by Rev 4:00

The bugs are also present in SUSE, Mandriva, Fedora etc. ..

The problem seems to be reversed with the high byte low byte...

I have the same bug with Gwenview 2.3.1 (KDE 4.3.1, Archlinux x86_64).

It's a bug in Qt.
I reported it here http://bugreports.qt.nokia.com/browse/QTBUG-6937
