Ok, it seems this crash was caused by one applet crashing (it was networkmanager applet this time). In the future, it would be useful for plasma-desktop crashes to be able to review active applets and have an option to deselect one from loading before restarting plasma-desktop. Currently the only way to get plasma-desktop up and running in case like this, is to manually edit .kde4/share/config/plasma-desktop-appletsrc and remove offending plasmoid.
