Description Ionut Lucaci 2009-06-24 16:28:05 UTC
Version: 3.5 (using 4.2.4 (KDE 4.2.4), Kubuntu packages)
Compiler: cc
OS: Linux (x86_64) release 2.6.28-13-generic

It would be nice to have an equalizer tab in kmix. An equalizer that would act system-wide just as the equalizer in Audacious.
An improvement to this would be to even have some custom equalizer settings per application and the ability to store presets.

The plus opens a dialog from which you can add a new application to the list, by selecting from a quick list of open applications or by clicking a browse button to select other applications.
The minus deletes an applications from the list, thus that application conforming to the global profile.
The Global item can't be deleted from the list.

I don't think this is possible in KMix. I haven't heared of any hardware that supports an equalizer in hardware/driver under Linux.

An equalizer is usually done by the playback application (not KMix).

Fresher developments this year bring this wish closer: It MIGHT be possible to do that with Pulseaudio:

http://www.webupd8.org/2010/02/pulseaudio-system-wide-equalizer-now.html

I'll assign this over to the Pulseaudio component for checking that.

Thank you so much! That is amazing. But what is even more amazing is that you have not forgotten about the wish I reported so long ago!

Yes! kmix with equalizer!
Comment 5 ultrajej 2012-03-06 17:17:49 UTC
I really like this idea!

Actually it is still not possible to add an equalizer. The situation today even is worse than before. On http://www.webupd8.org/2010/02/pulseaudio-system-wide-equalizer-now.html you can read:
"PulseAudio Equalizer is no longer maintained."

So I think it is better to keep the equalizer directly in the playback applications. => Feature is not planned for KMix. Sorry and thanks for your patience. => Closing bug.
