sorry for the rant in comment #1. Instead I've created a bug report: Bug 197673 do you have two screens? No. But I did connect my laptop to a projector yesterday, thus temporarily getting two screens. ah, well, that explains the problem. it probably still considers itself to be associated with a screen and therefore undeletable. tricky problem. in the meantime you can zoom in on one containment, then back to the other, and then you can delete the first one. not great, but it'll work between now and when this gets fixed. It doesn't seem to be the trick to let me delete it.. It seems I have the same problem with this new version: KDE 4.2.95 (KDE 4.3 RC1)) "release 139". I find no method to delet activities any more. This red cross for deleting - when I zoom out - is missing. Even my shortcut (Alt+Umschalt+R) doesn't work. Normally I created 4 activities. But unfortunately I tried out the new plasma-configuration: "Use a seperate dashboard". After a short time I changed back to the original (that is *no* seperate dashboard). This way "hidden" activities were created. They are not to be seen by switching activities via the plasmoid, but one can see them by switching via shotcut. Now I have 8 activities. None of them is deletable. I am a bit confused. How do I get rid of some of these? Created attachment 35445 [details]

I think I had found a way to solve this problem. It was bit curious because I had to choose opposed decisions. I had to zoom out (as shown in the sceenshot given with comment #9) and than pick up *add* activity/Aktivität hinzufügen from the plasma desktop dialog (placed in the top right corner). At this moment I saw the icons for deletion (similar to a red cross) beneath some of the activities and I cleaned them up. (You may not delete all activities. Certainly one of them must be left as the default one.) This way I got rid of odd activities. From an ergonomically point of view I think this behaviour was a bit strange: Nobody who wants to *delete* an activity would assume that he has to choose *add* activity to finally succeed in deletion. However, now with the last update to version KDE 4.2.96 (KDE 4.3 RC2) "release 142", openSuSE 11.1, this issue has vanished: Zooming out by now shows (as supposed) the icons for deletion beneath the activities. @user sts@gmx.de You have to choose "Miniprogramme entsperren" at first! Otherwise you are not allowed to enable deletion. I think you missed this point. (In reply to comment #11) > @user sts@gmx.de > You have to choose "Miniprogramme entsperren" at first! Otherwise you are not > allowed to enable deletion. I think you missed this point. no, I don't miss this point. And now I have 3 desktop avitivies without any action icons and only one "normal" Created attachment 35467 [details]
delete activities
KDE4-version: 4.2.96 (KDE 4.2.96 (KDE 4.3 RC2)) "release 142" is working perfectly again as shown (sreenshot). As Seigo already pointed out, the issue is that plasma thinks there is still an extra display attached, and this is why I (the original bug reporter) am not able to delete the extra activity. This bug is still present in KDE 4.3 RC2 *** Bug 199920 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. *** I am seeing this in Kubuntu as well. (KDE 4.3) There is no Red X to delete activities. Furthermore Activities breed like rabbits, and seemingly simple things like clicking use separate dashboard will gen up a whole duplicate set of activites all without the X This whole thing is so error prone and it takes so long to fix your system once it goes gunnysack that you should consider Positive Affirmation anytime an activity is to be created. Pop up window, CLEAR descriptions about what is about to happen and a OK/Cancel button. I am going to create (Yet another pointless duplicate) activity. This will be the 37th Activity on your system. I will/will not lock this activity to desktop 4. This activity will run on monitor 2, Desktop 4/ Are you sure you want to do this, because 37 seems a bit over the top YES / NO And yes, I've just spent an hour fixing this, and NO, I am not kidding about the above suggestion. The process of setting up activities is entirely too opaque. In KDE 4.3.4 installed either from OpenSuse or Kubuntu we still have this problem. Activities offer no ability to delete, and Activities seem to create themselves at will. This problem is NOT, and I STRONGLY REPEAT: NOT only associated with multiple monitors. This happens frequently with single monitor machines. Why has this taken so long to be fixed? The activity overview has been replaced completely in 4.5, so this bug is no longer valid. |
