Currently if the panel is set to auto hide, windows demanding attention aren't seen until the user views the panel. This often causes problems when some dialog is seeking authentication information to do some network operation and the user only realises it ten minutes later, wasting time.

It would be great if the panel could automatically raise itself for a small interval when a window demands attention

Are you say about notifications?
For me notifications are be on KDE 4.2.4.

This would be extremely useful for panels in autohide containing the taskmanager, or any widget with the same functionality as the task manager.  Not all "notifications" of running applications merit being displayed through the notifications popup.  For instance, I get notifications for new email, for changes/reminders to the hamster app, tweets etc... I don't pay as much attention to them.  

On the other hand, some sort of attention-grab to the fact that Firefox or Chrome have popped up a new window (and it went to inactive behind active window) or that an app popped up a dialog box is immeasurable in it's usefulness.  It doesn't have to raise the panel, a notification in the form of a coloured glow from where the panel is hiding (as docky does) or something like how Unity presents it briefly is very subtle, but very useful.

This feature request was filed for KDE Plasma 4, which reached end-of-support status in August 2015. KDE Plasma 5's desktop shell has been almost completely rewritten for better performance and usability, so it is likely that this feature request is already implemented in Plasma 5, or is no longer applicable.
