Version: (using KDE 4.2.90) OS: Linux Installed from: Ubuntu Packages Loaded plugins: The desktop is in folder view mode, so it shows my desktop. During login my disk always working hard, and the login looks like waiting for it to finish it's job. Once i have switched to tty, and checked the problem. In htop there was some kdeinit4 instance. I have straced them, and i saw that it calls stat64() and lstat64() all of my files under ~/Desktop (recursively). Which is a big problem, because i have a lot of files. Quote from the strace: Process 6227 attached - interrupt to quit stat64("*oneofmyfiles*", {st_mode=S_IFREG|0755, st_size=2441819, ...}) = 0 stat64("*oneofmyfiles*", {st_mode=S_IFREG|0755, st_size=2146645, ...}) = 0 stat64("*oneofmyfiles*", {st_mode=S_IFREG|0755, st_size=2258464, ...}) = 0 Just to demonstrate the weight of the problem: meta@meeeta:~$ cat kdeinit4strace | grep 'stat64("/home/meta/Desktop/' | wc --lines 35010 I think it is reproducible if you put a ton of files on your desktop. Maybe the folderview causes this? Other info, that maybe irrelevant: - i have enabled the previews of files/folders in the folderview. (But i think this is not a reason for more than 2 level of recursion and to scan every files)
