Version:           3.2.4 (using 4.2.4 (KDE 4.2.4), Kubuntu packages)
Compiler:          cc
OS:                Linux (x86_64) release 2.6.28-12-generic

Open Kate, open file 1, then open file 2. Close Kate. Open Kate again - no recent files (see screenshot)

And Kate doesn't store settings in modules section.
