Your backtrace doesn't show anything related to kalarm. Can you install the debug packages for kdepim and kdelibs and paste a better one please ? Installing the debug package for phonon could also be helpful. More informations on this page: http://techbase.kde.org/Development/Tutorials/Debugging/How_to_create_useful_crash_reports Mmh.. crashing on Phonon: #11 0x025cab45 in qt_assert(char const*, char const*, int) () from /usr/lib/libQtCore.so.4 #12 0x072bbdd6 in ?? () from /usr/lib/libphonon.so.4 What is your Phonon version and backend ? If you can reproduce at will, install the phonon-debuginfo package to get a completer backtrace. Thanks I'll have to install some more of bloatware (goes @Cristophe and thanks a lot anyway!) as I see that actually KCrash crashed on the end of the ends. Currently, I'm yumming things down to get it properly reported. See ya in couple of hours with at least two reports. I wonder how it would be with an ancient kernel six install back. HW+kernel: - 2.6.29.4-167.PAE i686 (SMP #1, runing on Athlon XP 2200+, Asus VM266SE-LAN, 1.2Gb RAM, chipset Nvidia Nforce alias Nvidia, additional RTL8139C as eth1, dvd/rw lbelsflash (tm) from optiarc/sony (tm) plus hdd WDD EIDE, some hundredGB, i don't know know how much exactly. Actually, packages should all be i686 or i386, but Fedora 11 has done (again) a very infamous i586 installation bug in updates over yum, so installing PAE i686 kernel was fastest fix possible for me. We'll talk that there. Will try with two older kernels, one of them i586, let's see what happens. No attachments follow. Cheers, Jože. Version 4.3.1, i586. Both backend-xine and library. Hence, gstreamer backend is on in xine as I found out. That might be the source of the problem - gstreamer-backend for phonon is not installed. I installed this one too, now I'll install debuginfo packages. Then we'll see again. And not forget to mention, I started with rawhide repos (now disabled) when Fedora 11 release candidate 1 was released. Now I'm gradually trying to get out a reproducible stable system. But I have included rpmfusion-free, handled with priorities from the start. Se ya in maximum half to three quarters of an hour, I'll install those debuginfo things and do several reboots after that to test some things, including changing kernels at boot time. I have Fedora 10 kernel lying around to test, it can be very useful. Cheers, Jože Well, you don't need both gstreamer backends. KDE will use the topmost one in systemsettings/sound. Know that, Cristophe. But, algorithms are made by people and we people all make mistakes. So, errors can lie anywhere. I was a pro in 1996 , now I do these thing for hobby and to keep mentally fit. I'll reply from now on only to "facti bruti" if someone has case solved or has a really good proposal! I've installled more then 0,5Gb *-debuginfo & devel packages, if that tells anything. We'll see results in several minutes. Total download size: 547 M, says yum. Sit down and wait, speed is 155KB. Cheers, Jože If you're already nervous, I'm currently installing yum all_I_need*-debuginfo packages with kernel kdepim and kdebase included (happily, space enough on HDD). Current progress from yum (currently downloading, that's most time consuming): (5/6): kernel-PAEdebug-debuginfo-2 (74%) 67% [================ ] 155 kB/s | 208 MB 11:06 E Cheers, Jože Er.... as I stated on comment 2, the crash is on Phonon, so "phonon-debuginfo" was the only needed package, at least in this case... Dario, thanks a lot. I too strongly believe it is there. But I have some (unreported - one in kdeplasma, for instance) crashes in KDE and elsewhere that may be helpful to some other people, very committed to development of open source software. So, I think I'll need this bloatware in very near future despite your precious opinion. So, wait another ten minutes, will you? I have a DSL line available, what does it cost you? Cheers, Jože New testcase, SIGABRT again, same signs. I'll try to open a new user to see if something is wrong with my user settings. Maybe this is the key to the working Kampion. ;) Traceback was useless, due to wrongly compiled packages. Probable wrong debuginfo. How I hate that lazy Austrian Fedora mirror<fedora.inode.at>! It has so ugly scripts, that don't follow with debuginfo packages quite exactly. They leave out some of them and for Seth's cookie on cake, this is a common practice in Fedora! Cheers, Jože well - TWO testcases. First, under freshly created user sound works, Kalarm surprisingly too! Problem in my humble opinion lies in libphonon, which probably does no file checks at all and just executes what is written in audio settings. That's a theory. Now I'll have to check it with fresh installation settings. Where can I get those files to manually tamper them? Cheers, Jože Manual session is almost identical to a logon session of Kalarm - they both endup with crash and both with some sort of SIGXXXX. Logon session issues SIGABRT, manual SIGSERV 11. Greatly apreciated some other SIGXXXX, that would prove instability. Both alarm windows from alarm list in manual and logon session are properly displayed, they are really very quickly destroyed, no alarm sound is issued (but it should beep twice!). As audio was running in background in manual session, there were less and there were other problems (wrong audio settings?). Proposed solution that should work: All KDE system applications should ignore user settings and use system wide default settings for basic warning. Tomorrow I will not be on line until at least 17.00h (time zone = Ljubljana / Praha / Wien alias Vienna / Paris). Cheers, Jože Well, I downloaded most of the (more than 1.5G!) debuginfo packages and got a really nice prettyprint. RTFM, IMHO. First one is logon/bootup crash. Have a nice work until I get back. The xine one occurs when Phonon is trying to open the audio file, while the gstreamer one occurs when KAlarm asks Phonon to stop and tidy up. Could you please attach the file ~/.kde/share/apps/kalarm/displaying.ics (or perhaps ~/.kde4/...). I'm reallocating this bug to Phonon in the hope that somebody who knows more about phonon can investigate. Found out in Kmix that sound was _muted_. Sound is not heard when Kalarm starts and crashes, but it works anywhere else. Furthermore, there are some sound devices without drivers, in pairs in each section (System>System settings>Multimedia). Prioritized them as low as possible to minimize error possibility. Sound file opened by libphonon is file:///usr/share/sounds/pop.wav. It exists, 4.0 KiB long, it's R/W for UID 0 (root), R/O for it's group and all others and not executable. Sound played from it is correct. I also found out that the file ~/.kde/share/apps/kalarm/displaying.ics was created by Kalarm v 2.1.7 if that helps. Time zone was Europe/Belgrade which was manually corrected to Europe/Ljubljana (the same, no effect). I changed original messages to more general ones, that's all. Originals had quite brutal reminders, maybe that's why it crashed? From now on SIGABRT again. Cheers, Jože Fixed, by preventing more than one audio thread being created at any one time. This has the benefit (apart from fixing the crash) that KAlarm won't play two different audio files at the same time! Fixed for KDE 4.3.0, and in KDE 4.2 branch (SVN commits 981995, 981995). *** Bug 197178 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. *** |
