Description enryfox 2001-01-31 08:15:13 UTC
(*** This bug was imported into bugs.kde.org ***)

Package: kcontrol
Version: 2.1 Beta 2
Severity: normal
Installed from: mandrake 7.2 rpms

under control panel i can choose wheater to use "only icons" or "icons with text in all kde toolbar". If i select icon with text all toolbar (konqueror koffice ..) will have icons with text. If i go back to only icons this has no effect and i have to manualy switch every toolbar to "icons only" view option (rigth click on each toolbar and select "no text").

It works fine here. What style do you use?

It's my true belief that people having wishes for the bug report tool
and report it to the author haven't got the idea behind open source.

i've debugged the situation that's what happens :

kcontrol correctly modifies the .kde/share/config/kdeglobals; but if
you simply move or modify a toolbar in any kde application (eg
konqueror) then this application writes in its own config file
a section that contains the toolbar settings including the
icontext option. From that moment on this toolbar option cannot
be modified via kcontrol but only with a right click on the toolbar
itself and selecting the correct option. In other words after a little
personalization of the most common kde application (kmail konqueror
koffice ...) this options in kcontrol becomes pretty useless because
every application has its own toolbars settings and doesn't follow the setting
in kcontrol.

but afterall it's simply an aesthetical problem :-)

thanks for your attention

ciao
Enrico

Why was this bug closed? As far as I can tell, this still happens with KDE 3.5.3. Lots of my rc files have IconText=IconOnly in them, though I have never modified the setting from within the application.

so do I
Comment 5 Pierre Habouzit 2006-06-07 21:27:01 UTC
Note that it's also debian but http://bugs.debian.org/295928
Comment 6 Danny Allen 2006-08-29 01:54:17 UTC
After investigation, it seems that comment #2 is correct - after any manual adjustment of a toolbar in an application, then that application is then immune from central changes in toolbar policy from KControl.

Therefore this bug is valid.

Probably this behaviour won't be changed on KDE3. A similar issue has already been reported on KDE4. So I'm closing this.
