The date-font seems to be hardcoded. It is neither the font from clock-settings nor any of the system-fonts.

Confirming this with 4.3b1 (at least regarding the "not from clock-settings" part).

(side info: Bug 185588 says something about the size being used)

this is really annoying as it makes the date line completely useless on lots of theme/wallpaper combinations.

You can change the font and color of the digital clock time + date.

Nope, you cannot change the font of the date, or the font-size of the digital clock.  Not in Debian Wheezy amd64.

Really.  The Digital Clock font size is scaled according to how much width is required by the Date text, if you show it.  For example, the long date text (which always remains the same font and size no matter what font-family you set the digital time to use) will be wider on the bottom of the widget than the short date, making the entire widget spread out wider to accommodate the date width.  When this happens, the font SIZE of the digital time portion BALLOONS TO A REALLY PUKE UGLY SIZE.

If there is a way to change the digital time font, I'd like to hear it.  Otherwise, it's just more crap to put up with until XFCE fixes their menu system and file manager.

The date font follows the "small" setting from Systemsettings->Applications appearance->fonts
