Those features would do exactly what selection markers do -- but it would be possible to assign actions to them, put them in toolbar (only make sense if you make those selection semi-permanent). The reason for this is I use keyboard mainly, and I would love to browse files using keyboard and hitting [insert] (just like old days) to make selection.
